Welcome
As Leader of the Council I have a demanding role in helping set the priorities of the Council. The Unitary Authority
now has a Sustainable Community Strategy which sets out the long term vision for the economic, social and environmental
well-being for the County. A three year Council Plan, Medium Term Financial Plan and individual Service Improvement
Plans are also in place to ensure services meet the needs of the people of County Durham.
I meet many local groups and organisations to find out how we can work
together and I also represent the Council on county, regional and national
organisations to encourage partnership working, promote County Durham and get
the best deal for our area. To give you an insight into my work you can view my
diary for the coming week and in ‘leader talk’ I will let you know about some of
the major issues we are currently dealing with.

People across County Durham will share my disappointment at the outcome of the short-listing for City of Culture, with the exclusion of Durham from the final list.
